Wolfenstein 3D: Spear of Destiny Mission Two: Return to Danger (played in ECWolf for review)

“Spear of Destiny” enjoys something of a complicated relationship with contemporary audiences, another set of maps for a game that already had too many levels that also had the strike against it of being talked up by older gamers as an unsung classic. It still has measurable craft to it, though, which is more than can be said for this expansion to an expansion. Its greatest charm is the novelty of its reskin in a commercially released product, and that wears off three rooms in as Wolfenstein’s tendency towards poorly-signposted, gargantuan maps is most hideously realized. Boring, ugly, and brainless.
