Unbelievable

Dever’s performance throughout “Unbelievable” deserved to be acknowledged with at least an Emmy nomination. Her turn as a victim that is repeatedly done wrong by the people that are supposed to be on her side is at once heartbreaking and mesmerizing, and she conveys more with a glance than most actors can get across with a monologue. The first episode, which focuses entirely on her character, had me enthralled, hinting that this was event television worth making time for. Then “Unbelievable” spends most of its remaining seven episodes as a stereotypical, stupid crime drama, and it becomes impossible to recommend.
