Nomadland (2020 film)

“Nomadland” is Important and About Things and is, indeed, a treatise on the downside of the American Dream. It is also truly, dreadfully boring. The meat and potatoes of “Nomadland” are a series of encounters the lead character goes through rather than a proper plot, meaning it lives or dies on the strength of these episodes, and while a few are affecting, the best one comes early and the rest don’t challenge the character or change much of anything. “Nomadland” feels the sort of film that hopes you bring more to the experience of watching it than the film does.
