Mega Man Xtreme

“Xtreme” has quite an identity crisis going on. An obvious reimagining of “Mega Max X”, “Xtreme” also tries to posit itself as a proper game in MM’s borked timeline (this, after so many portable MM games openly disregarded canon). This identity crisis extends to game design as well—I was practically jumping from checkpoint to checkpoint, but the bosses make up for their lack of ingenuity by hitting like mack trucks. It makes for an interesting comparison, seeing what a 16-bit game would look like on an 8-bit system, but that constitutes most of “Xtreme”’s worth. Play it once, maybe.
