Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (English dub watched for review)

I was promised a new Evangelion: new thrills, new horrors, and a new way to see the world blow up into itself. What I got was mostly the first six episodes redrawn to look like it was made in 2007, with a stinger at the end to better set up a later plot twist and exactly one truly meaningful difference that guarantees things have to diverge harshly down the road. A bit of the show’s soul is lost in cleaning up the visuals and streamlining the story, but even if it wasn’t, it’s still a repeat. Almost completely inessential viewing.
