LSD: Dream Emulator

One of the first “walking simulators”, and still one of the most evocative. The lack of direction works surprisingly well—you’re given the loosest of outlines through an unsettling, creepy land and allowed to do whatever you want. Around every corner is something that’s just off enough to get a reaction, and that’s when the game isn’t outright terrifying. The outdated graphics help the aesthetic, too, as objects, animals, buildings, and…other things look even more horrid than they might if they were properly rendered. The shocks don’t last forever, but I’d put this above most proper horror and “walking” games.
