Les Diaboliques (1955 film)

The execution of the climactic moments was great, maybe not “scariest scare of all time” disturbing but I can understand how it came to be canonized in that regard, and there’s some fun with a retired detective who I thought was a hoot. That said, “Les Diaboliques” is one of those old films that takes an hour for the interesting part of the plot synopsis to kick in, meaning all the hoopla around it takes up the concluding forty-five minutes. It’s good drama, but only “good”, not “great” and most certainly not “classic”, not helped by steamrolling through the epilogue.
