Happiest Season

“Season” might be more encouraging for what it enables above its quality (why HAVEN’T we gotten more mainstream gay rom-coms?), but it’s plenty good in its own right. It has a bit of a tone problem between its surprisingly considered melodrama and its wacky action, but the cast consists of a bunch of talented people (and Dan Levy) who do a damn good job of making “Season” engaging even as it wildly swings between emotional tones. This isn’t the best rom-com of 2020 nor the best rom-com exclusive to Hulu (those are both “Palm Springs”), but I quite enjoyed this.
