Happy Death Day
The promotional material for “Happy” suggested it was some sort of horror-comedy, but while it flirts with that in its initial third, the remainder is a straight-up comedy with a deeply macabre sense of humor—a montage of considerable violence is set to a Demi Lovato number, for starters. I’m okay with this being a dumb comedy in disguise thanks to most of the jokes landing and a spirited performance by the lead actress, but between narrative inconsistencies and it barely scratching the surface of the possibilities of its concept, “Day” is entertaining but not wholly fulfilling. A guilty pleasure.
