Euphoria (Season One)

The reputation of “Euphoria” precedes itself to such a degree, the extreme content and lack of commentary on the educational process in a high school drama can threaten to overwhelm the conversation (the fact the latter is never brought up is statement by itself, if you ask me). What’s captured here is a troubled, hysterical, sometimes sloppy, and often stunning microcosm of a generation raised to value exceptionalism, accept normalcy, and abhor self-reflection; expect a bonkers punchline right before things get heavier than tungsten. The metaphor might’ve been more substantial with some restraint, but its HBO, subtlety is for suckers.
