Community (Season Two)

The first season of “Community” was a run-of-the-mill sitcom whose outrageous comic highs, though rare, hinted at something approaching classic television if it ever got away from writing “Saved By the Bell” fanfic. The sophomore season better realizes that promise, kicking off with some middling episodes until “Epidemiology”, at which point many of these episodes better resemble short films than the mediocrity of the first year. They’re not all winners, but the duds are rare and the highs, such as “Advanced Dungeons and Dragons” and the paintball finale, are well worth sacrificing whatever dramatic throughline that was never working, anyway.
