Blockers (2018 film)

I feel a little bad for any film released in 2018 that wasn’t “Black Panther”, “Sorry to Bother You”, “A Star Is Born”, or “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” because that’s a horse race for being the fifth-best film of the year. “Blockers”, between its nearly two-hour runtime and the odd extended joke that does not work (do Gary Cole and Gina Gershon get completely cut out of the cable broadcasts?), isn’t in that race, but its likeable take on the gross-out teen sex comedy genre combined with surprisingly progressive politics would have made it celebrated more in a less-crowded year.
