Yuko Miyamoto vs. Takashi Sasaki (Scaffold Death Match) for the BJW Death Match Heavyweight Championship, from the Big Japan show held on March 14, 2007
I knew nothing about either men going into this match and I came out of it caring intensely about everything they do. Deathmatch wrestling frequently uses unconventional weaponry in lieu of good storytelling, but not only is there purpose to everything here, those purposes always makes sense (yes, that’s a compliment worth singling out, wresting is weird). This goes almost half an hour and yet none of it feels superfluous or unconvincing, and the drama down the line comes as consequence of character traits that have been hammered home since the opening moments of the match. Watch this glorious madness.
