Vulgus

If I put on my nostalgia goggles, I could admire this game for its visual fidelity and its frenetic gameplay given that it came out the same year as “Beverly Hills Cop”. Some forty years later, however, my praise extends to “it ain’t bad!”. The lack of a proper ending (there’s a boss but the game loops after that) and shallow mechanics mean it doesn’t have the longevity or depth of other vertical shooters of the time, and that’s without taking the NES library into consideration. As just ten minutes of shoot bang, it’s fine. You could do much worse.
