Twin Peaks (The One-Armed Man and Cooper’s Dreams)
Among the many plates “Twin Peaks” juggles are as being parodical of soap operas, and while the show does a lot spectacularly well, this aspect doesn’t really work for me. There’s enough works engaging in that sort of low-hanging fruit, and those works also have the courtesy of not being interesting, so there isn’t much in terms of lost opportunity, a backhanded compliment I can’t give to “Twin”. “Peaks” leans hard on this aspect in these two episodes and it makes for the weakest hours of the first season; the latter gets the edge due to one late striking sequence.
5 for “The One-Armed Man”, 6 for “Cooper’s Dreams”
