To Leslie
“To Leslie” is, indeed, an unflinching, unfancy, raw, bold, pole-shifting, pond-filling…are they gone? Okay, it’s a well-acted, well-written tale of a screw-up trying to unscrew their life, and the two leads eventually carry this film well enough, but while it is unquestionably necessary to depict the screw-up screwing up, there was more than one point in the first act when I said “alright, I get it, can we stop circling the drain?”. After that, it’s two people making googly-eyes at each other for an hour, which is adorable but hardly the transcendental experience advertised. A good film, all told.
