Spawn (1997 film)
I can't pretend the best tellings of "Spawn" don't have issues, but this reads like how not to do this story. It skimps on the grit that made the franchise stand out (as well as crucial story details whose absence open plot holes where none existed in the source) and can't nail the balance of high-stakes absurdity involving very human chess pieces. Even the cartoon, which could resemble a Flash cartoon at times, looked better than this big-budget effort. On the bright side, the makeup jobs are check-plus all around and Leguizamo is having a good time. Good for him.
