Ouija: Origin of Evil

How do you make a good movie based around a board game? A: have it be the inciting incident for the plot, keep it on screen for exactly the amount of time that’s been legally agreed upon, then throw that shit in the corner and make a good movie around what’s been shot. This is writer-director Mike Flanagan’s excuse for making a throwback horror film, and all you need to know of his affection for the aesthetic comes with the cigarette burns on the product. This isn’t some unheralded classic, but this is far better than it needs to be.
