My Blue Heaven
I love the concept—taking deadly serious material and playing it as a low-stakes comedy—but the execution is all off. “My Blue Heaven” is literally framed from the same source material as “Goodfellas”, and there’s certainly enough accomplished names in front of and behind the camera to pull this off, but director Herbert Ross can’t find his film’s pulse, resulting in an erratic 97 minutes that could have improved with 15 minutes trimmed. There’s the occasional inspired scene that provides a window into an alternate universe where “Heaven”’s potential is realized, but it isn’t worth your time and effort.
