Invincible (Where I Really Come From)

A generous reading of the first scene of the first episode is as a hysterical riff on unearned drama built on empty platitudes too often used to prop up superhero dramas so it feels like there’s more stakes than the audience can register. That other scenes in the pilot engage with such platitudes unironically read as grim portent to me, and that the season finale is built on them basically ruins what should be the most important moments of the season. Even if it didn’t, the episode ends about twenty minutes before it finishes, shockingly poor pacing for this show.
