Flipped (2010 film)

Proof that a film has to do more to be a worthy adaptation of a novel than copy the events of the story to the screen. “Flipped” performs fine with the broad strokes (time shift to the 60s notwithstanding), but not only does it fail to capture the subtler charms of the novel, it doesn’t seem to bother attempting subtlety at all, and that’s kind of a killer given where the story goes. What are earned elements on the page come across as mandated points on the screen. I wouldn’t call it outright awful, but this bombed and that’s fine.
