Earthworm Jim (Genesis version played on Switch for review)

“Earthworm Jim” bets hard on its sense of humor and stage variety; Lord knows its standard play isn’t enough to sustain itself. About half of this works, and all these parts are easy to tell because they don’t require multiple attempts to pass, showing that someone on board understands that repetition is the death of humor. When it doesn’t work, it’s the second underwater level or the poop level or any of the parts where attacks patterns have to be memorized because they can’t be reacted to. There’s wilder and funnier 16-bit platformers, but there’s also plenty worse than this.
