Coming Home in the Dark (2021 film)

I don’t like to single out simplistic matters like “put this one thing in your project and it would automatically be better” (art is not a science), but in this case, I can’t help but feel that it would have worked better if there were more intensity and unsettling elements to the violence. The dialogue and cinematography don’t insult your intelligence (this shouldn’t be a compliment) and there’s something engaging to this macabre tale, but it all feels like a letdown when the violence is subdued compared to what we’ve been led to expect. A promising first draft, all told.
