Chigusa Nagayo vs. Lioness Asuka, from the AJW event held on February 26, 1987

Some folk have the temerity to put forth that this match is repetitive and too long for its own good. Bullshit. Where they saw a whole bunch of moves being done with little variation, I saw a war of attrition where maybe THIS TIME that piledriver might be enough to put the other down. It’s the grappling equivalent of a slugfest, where a standard suplex could conceivably end thing without feeling like a letdown. I’m not a big fan of the finish or the dumbass referee, but I’d not blink at anyone calling this the best match of the 80s.
