Chernobyl (2019 miniseries)

From one of the writers behind the “Hangover” sequels comes a brilliant chronicle of one of the worst disasters in history, conveying how and why it happened, the toll it took on the innocent, and the voices of reason that prevented it from being even worse. That the kangaroo court sequence represents the most hopeful part of the whole show should speak to how bleak the rest of it is, but what makes it so damn watchable is not only the masterful execution but how easily it registers as allegorical to so many problems in the present. A necessary watch.
