Caché (Hidden)

“Caché” is a film that presents you with a series of images, emotional tones, and incomplete answers and asks the audience to fill in the rest. A bad film of this description, and there are many, would use this approach as replacement for craft, but “Caché” feels considered and thoughtful and (my God) haunting. My interpretation of it feels almost sheepishly optimistic: without getting into spoilers, the drama that comes from the tapes is a lesson to be learned not by the characters but by the audience, a reminder of the reverberations of trauma and the cowardice of the guilty.
