BoJack Horseman (Season One)

“Bojack Horseman” doesn’t rationalize its unstable tone until late in its debut season, when the curtain is lifted and we’re fully informed that yes, we’re supposed to feel this uncomfortable. Without getting into spoilers, what comes across as potty humor for its own sake is eventually reveal to be misdirection. Who knew this cast of comedians and actors with comic leanings would be able to bring humanity to a cartoon in which half the cast are animals? It gets DARK near the end, climaxing with “Downer Ending”, a strong candidate for the best half hour of television of the decade.
