Arrested Development (Season One) (revisited)

It’s so weird, especially after watching many contemporary silly comedies, to go back to a time when being silly didn’t mean doing away with craft. “Arrested Development” may not have been a perfect show with deep relationship drama, but it didn’t need deep relationship drama to make up for a dearth of jokes because it was packed to the gills with great punchlines and setups for jokes down the stretch. It is difficult to understate how many current acclaimed shows look like fermented dogshit compared to “Arrested Development”’s first season. I had hoped this would become a standard. Guess not.
