Anna and the Apocalypse

I’ve extremely mixed feelings towards “Dead Rising: The Musical”. It takes almost half an hour for a musical number to advance the plot, it loses a lot of steam when it shoos out the clowns for the third act, and while it occasionally tries to conjure something heartfelt ala “Shaun of the Dead”, these scenes never clicked for me. On the other hand, most of the musical numbers are good, the jokes land far more than they miss, and Ella Hunt is plenty engaging as the title character. I suppose I’d recommend this, but don’t go in expecting something fantastic.
