Women Talking (2022 film)

The performances are good, the cinematography is good throughout, the bookends are effective, and the central conflict is compelling and affords ample opportunities to say “WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY” without saying we live in a society. The killer flaw comes with the pacing. “Women Talking” begins by tasking its cast to answer a question, and while the ensuing discussion has weight and power, it isn’t long before the film spins its wheels, with multiple conversations going “WE HAVE TO LEAVE” and “SURELY YOU’RE NOT SAYING WE LEAVE” and “WE CAN’T STAY” and arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh. On the low end of good.
