Wolfenstein: The New Order (PS4 version)

There’s so much to love here, from the technical wizardry on display that must have blown minds on its release and still manages to thrill nearly a decade later to the storytelling that renders B.J. Blazkowicz, the cartoonish precursor to The Doomslayer that (still) wears a bonnet if you play on the lowest difficulty, one of the best-written characters in recent memory. There’s also a lot to hate, mostly from the poor marriage of gameplay and level design that oscillates wildly between an alright run-and-gun title and the worst “Thief” spinoff you could possibly imagine, sometimes in the same level.
