Varsity Blues

A dramedy that either lacks perspective or is afraid to share it. We’re overdosed with characters, but they may as well have been cardboard for where the plot goes. This is a film that takes a detour every five minutes to say “Do not do this cool thing”. This is a film that plays better as a series of skits than as a whole. This is a film in which the kids learn there is so much more to life than the fleeting joy provided by football games, then get hyped for the climactic big game. Morals? Lessons? Purpose? Whatever.
