Twin Peaks (Season One)
Above all else—the silly slapstick, the in-universe satirical takedowns of cheap soap opera drama followed by scenes of earnest soap, and the endlessly spiraling mystery—what sticks out the most to me is the music. “Twin Peaks”, at least of its first season, is chiefly defined by “Laura Palmer’s Theme”, first appearing with the discovery of her body and being reprised whenever someone is in a moment of significant stress. It’s a reminder that, for all else that’s going on here, the action of the show is defined as fallout of its inciting action, Laura gone but never forgotten.
