There Is No Evil

There’s a lot to absorb with “There Is No Evil”, both in terms of the weightiness of its subject as well as its considerable runtime, and I wouldn’t fault anyone for not wishing to engage with this film. If you have the patience and constitution for it, however, there’s a lot to love about the writing, acting, cinematography, narrative, and overall filmmaking in Mohammad Rasoulof’s latest film, doubly impressive given it was filmed in secret while in the process of appealing a prison sentence. A haunting work that feels half its length that deserves more recognition that it has received.
