Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989 NES title) (version found in the Switch port of The Cowabunga Collection played for review)

The fatal flaw with this title isn’t its considerable difficulty—there ARE harder titles on the system that are easier to recommend, and the amenities afforded with this port make it feasible to get to the end credits. The problem is finding the motivation to do so given how charmless and directionless it is, invoking none of the humor or thought of the license and instead presenting a soulless, plodding platformer with brawling elements on a system brimming with standouts in this field. Konami released this through its Ultra Games imprint to circumvent Nintendo’s licensing restrictions; imagine fighting for THIS.
