Shaun of the Dead

“Shaun of the Dead” set the standard for zombie comedies at its release in terms of combining sophisticated staging and witty writing into a product that had as much heart as it did hysterical elements, and in the almost twenty years since, only “One Cut of the Dead” has come anywhere close to challenging it. Its mastery of timing, both comedic and dramatic, render it consistently engaging and a compulsive watch; encounter it while channel-surfing and “I’ll just watch this one scene” can often turn into watching the whole thing. Probably not Wright’s best film, but arguably his most impressive.
