Ready or Not (2019 film)

“Ready or Not” is good for most of its runtime, great for some of it, and barely staying on the green for a little bit of it. The worst parts operate like they have more emotional weight than they’ve earned; it’s as though they forgot they were making a comedy with an over-the-top atmosphere. Samara Weaving, fortunately, understood the assignment and surely ripped her vocal chords apart to properly convey Grace’s descent into madness, and when “Not” disposes all pretense of commentary and message in favor of hysterical violence, which is more than half the time, it feels plenty agreeable.
