Passing (2021 film)

A tumultuous, tumescent testament to acquaintance accueils and ravishing roosters and—oh, who am I kidding, this film was boring. First-time director Rebecca Hall does an adequate job of translating bare text to the screen but fails to translate the poetry of the text save the occasional fine tableau, and Tessa Thompson making choices with her acting that are altogether strange and distracting is doing me no favors in taking this Important Film seriously. I’m happy films like “Passing” exist and I want more of them to be made, but I won’t lie and tell you this film entertained me.
