It’s still there. The music, the pacing, the right balance with the bosses, each of whom CAN be defeated with the standard gun but fall apart against the right weapon. This is the story of Mega Man and his Metal Blade, which turns the game into “Contra” and wipes the floor with half the cast, and with a game this tough, its fine that you’ve got something so overpowered. This was one of the first video games I remember playing, and twenty years later, the magic is still there. Arguably the best game on the NES and of all time.
