Layers of Fear

I don’t hate jumpscares. I hate works that rely hard on establishing tension and atmosphere through extensive, almost exclusive use of jumpscares. If your dumb project requires exploiting universally held patterns of recognition (humans have been built since caveman times to try to recognize faces whenever possible) and loud noises to make me startled, perhaps what you’re making isn’t effective. I’ll grant that some of the technology in service of impossible spaces can impress at times, and the visual fidelity and optimization mean Bloober might be effective at farming out concepts to, but originality and creativity are in short supply.
