His Girl Friday

I’ve always heard this referred to when discussions turn to great romances in film, which, yeah, there IS a romance, but this mostly feels like what would happen if Amy Sherman-Palladino wrote “All the President’s Men”. Bon mots, non-sequiturs, and crucial exposition are doled out with such ferocity, subtitles might be necessary for some audiences, as well as a reference book for early 1940s America. It’s a busybody film I found myself falling for, hardly a moment wasted in its ninety minutes anchored by two leads with no qualms of hysterically devouring the scenery. I’m glad I sought this out.
