Gone Girl (2014 film)

Everything I heard about Flynn’s book made it out to seem like the sort of work specifically designed to be adapted into a superior film (perhaps that’s unfair and overly judgmental; whatever). Regardless, this adaptation is spellbinding for almost the entirety of its duration, only slipping slightly with a saggy concluding ten minutes. Up until then, this is a mesmerizing character study, an engrossing mystery, and a wonderful showcase of its cast, getting career highlight performances out of the likes of Ben Affleck and Tyler Perry, the latter of whom is almost revelatory. An ugly story conveyed in nigh-masterful fashion.
