Ghosts ’n Goblins (Switch version in “Capcom Arcade Stadium” played for review)

The appeal of this over the SNES version comes in its presentation. The animation and brief instances of loading do a better job of the version you probably played as a kid at conjuring the intended chaotic atmosphere; it isn’t difficult to imagine yourself pounding quarters into this thing even as you never progress past the first stage. It still has the same problems as the SNES version, though, such as being inordinately difficult and obtuse. I’ve heard it argued this is to be played like a puzzle platformer, a notion undone by almost every aspect of this version’s aesthetic.
