Firefly (Serenity)

The legend of the show the guy who hates and hurts women made between “Buffy” and that other Dushku show (“Welcome to the Dollhouse”?) is so massive that it’s almost comical how it falls short of expectations. “Serenity”, the episode, is ninety minutes begging to be chopped to forty-five, the usual Whedon banter is as functional as one could expect, and goodness this show looks like ass. Much of the charm of televised SF is how a show’s big ideas are conveyed on a TV budget, but “Firefly” just looks like it didn’t have enough money. Charming in parts, though.
