Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

A moderately-amusing film, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” isn’t exceptional by any means but goes down smoother than many wacky films revolving around teenagers from this time period (Ferris Bueller and Samantha Baker both live in Shermer, it’s not inconceivable they know each other). It’s such a subdued comedy, in fact, that it feels like a backdoor pilot for a show that—oh, turns out a tie-in show WAS made and it lasted only a season, go figure. “Off” has developed a cult following trying to find meaning in its sometimes-weird movements, but there’s undoubtably better places to pan for gold.
