Encanto

Fine for the most part, though more often conceptually amazing than actually amazing. It isn’t necessarily a problem that hardly anything happens for its first two acts as the antics and issues of the family are supposed to pick up the slack, but even the best of these scenes feel like they’re leaving plenty of comical stones unturned, and that’s when things aren’t grinding to a halt in service of a forgettable song (we don’t talk about “Surface Pressure”). I’d be more negative towards “Encanto” if it weren’t for its knockout emotional climax. Good, but 2021 had better animated features.
