Duke Nukem (1991 PC game)

Remember the good old days of your IBM’s PC speaker almost blowing your ears out every gaming session? This action-platformer, a surprisingly-tame affair devoid of ultraviolence and titillating elements (not complaining, just odd), is hard to go back to, not just because CTRL and ALT are your action buttons but because there’s so little passion to the play. Levels aren’t frustrating and the action is functional but it’s hardly inspired, coming across more like a vertical slice of a game (fancy speak for “proof of concept”) than an actual game meant to be purchased and enjoyed. Not Duke’s worst, unfortunately.
