Dr. Mario

“Dr. Mario”, best known for being the inspiration for everyone’s favorite doctor (Dr. Amigo), is fine. It pales in comparison to something like “Tetris”, with its various in-game disasters and modes of play making it highly engaging to this day, but there’s still a high ceiling to the play of “Dr.” and two-player matches can get hype, rendering it at least on par with most eight-bit puzzlers. I struggle to give it any praise beyond that, however, especially in single-player play, whose difficulty sliders don’t do much to hit the sweet spot of conveyance. Better than many modern puzzlers, though.
