Dinner in America

This is a difficult film to recommend to some. Comparisons have been made to “Heathers”, but I feel “Dinner” also shares similarities with “Bad Santa” and “Welcome to the Dollhouse”, films I enjoy but also suspect many people will check out on when the nearly NC-17 content rolls in. If you’re in the mood for a kick to the keister, however, “America” is quite the treat, with two leads that have considerable chemistry, a brisk pace that feels half its hundred minutes, and a steady flow of throat-clearing gags a major studio would never have let fly. Good, twisted fun.
