Deadstream

Found footage gets a bad rep nowadays, with films that use the gimmick to ingenious effect being far outpaced by low-rent shlock. Count “Deadstream” among the good ones, utilizing the format to satirize folks raised on YouTube and Twitch without coming across as undue or forced—even the editing has an in-universe explanation. It also takes care to convey its central protagonist as hysterically insufferable without rendering him repugnant, so we’re eager to see him get bullied by ghosts instead of wanting him off our screens entirely. In the halls of good found footage, ahead of “Blair Witch”, behind “Rec”.
